After helping with the Freeport West Harvest Fest coat drive and the Mary's Place's GE Halloween party, Lynx players Candice Wiggins and Nicole Ohlde decided it was time to do give something a little more in the their element back to their community on Monday. Wiggins and Ohlde treated children from the West Side Boys & Girls Club to a basketball clinic in St. Paul.
The players shot, passed and dribbled their ways into the hearts of more than 30 youth from the West Side Boys & Girls Club. Wiggins and Ohlde stressed to the kids the necessary fundamentals needed in order to play the game the right way, including how to pass, dribble and shoot.
“It’s always fun to get out into the community and meet different groups," admitted Wiggins. "I’m glad we were able to visit a Boys & Girls Club during our trip. The kids were pretty good, I was impressed."
West Side Boys & Girls Club is built on the foundation of teamwork, positive relationships, and encouragement, traits that Ohlde can see in all of the young children of the West Side Boys & Girls Club. “The kids at West Side Boys & Girls Club were great to work with. Everyone listened well, was excited to learn and had a great time."
"It's easy to see why the Boys & Girls Club has such a large membership. The programs they develop are first class and great for everyone involved. I love working with the Boys & Girls Club and hope to get back here soon."
Monday's clinic wrapped up a busy week in the community for the two Lynx stars, but is not all that the two ladies have on their agenda. Because Wiggins was not able to travel to one of the playoff sites to receive her Sixth Woman Award due to her surgery, Vice President of Player Personnel Renee Brown will be on hand at Wednesday's Wolves vs. Spurs game to present Candice with her Sixth Woman of the Year trophy.
