Background

The first draft pick in WNBA history, Thompson was selected by the Houston Comets and helped lead them to WNBA championships in each of the WNBA's first four seasons, and into the playoffs 10 of her 12 years. A member of the WNBA All-Decade team, Thompson has been named to the All-WNBA team eight times and was the WNBA All-Star Game MVP in 2000.

Thompson took the same road to stardom as her Olympic teammate, Lisa Leslie. She started at Morningside High School in Los Angeles, then moved on to the University of Southern California and the WNBA. A three-time All-Pac 10 selection at USC, Thompson was a second-team All-American as a senior in 1997. She finished fifth on the school's career lists in scoring (2,248 points) and rebounding (1,168), and helped USC to three NCAA tournaments and one Elite Eight appearance, the latter as a freshman in 1994. At USC, Thompson earned a degree in sociology with a minor in psychology, and would like to one day pursue a law degree. At Morningside High, Thompson was named the 1993 California AAA Player of the Year. She ended her prep career with more than 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds.

She is the second leading scoring in WNBA history with 5,424 career points to date and has won two Olympic Gold medals in 2004 & 2008.

Tina missed a portion of the 2005 season to give birth to her son Dyllan in May 2005.
